JC (Pertwee) is the hero of the Cornish surfing community, and at times, it's only member. Staring thirty hard in the face, he fears that the wave that has carried him through a prolonged adolescence is heading for the rocks as his girlfriend pressures him for commitment and his friends contemplate growing up. Featuring McGregor and Zeta Jones in prominent roles shortly before they reached worldwide fame in TRAINSPOTTING and MASK OF ZORRO, respectively. An admirable contribution to that rarest of genres, the British surf drama.

What's this? A British movie about surfing! Set on the rocky, chilly beaches of Cornwall, it's no wonder you see little of the sport itself. Instead, director Carl Prechezer focuses on the less interesting dilemma facing surfer Sean Pertwee. Terrified of turning 30, should he choose between his woman, Catherine Zeta-Jones, or the waves? One look at the weather throughout this contrived melodrama — a film that would have been equally at home in the 1960s and starring Cliff Richard — and there's no contest. Only Ewan McGregor's drug-popping psycho places this old-fashioned emotional whirlpool in the 1990s.
Pleasing small-scale movie of people searching for something to commit to, and finding, for the most part, only stormy weather.
Ah well it may not be the best film ever made and you may feel that it doesn't deserve the five stars I've given it so here goes with my explanation of why I like it.
Firstly Sean Pertwee looks gorgeous and plays his role superbly, with the understated charm and humor we expect of him, he's a highly underrated actor and should be much bigger than he is in my humble opinion! The chemistry between the leads is excellent and Ewan McGregor brings his usual verve and loveability to another slightly unsympathetic character. The film also reminds us that cornwall is the home of beautiful panoramas and some slightly weird locals and that surfing is for us all not just blond aussies.
All in all it's a sweet, funny, enjoyable film which is a great way to spend a sunday evening in.
Blue Juice is worth a watch just to see Catherine Zeta Jones and Ewan McGregor before global stardom hit them. Story line is not bad, characters are well played and interesting. Don't expect loads of surfing like Endless Summer II - it's more like the more modern Blue Crush but with British humour, and an excellent cast of actors.
Kathy Jones. It doesn't have quite the same ring to it does it? The girl from Mumbles, West Glamorgan, took 'Zeta' from her paternal grandmother's Christian name. Her maternal grandmother was Catherine Fair, which sounds like a heroine from a lost Thomas Hardy novel, and must be considered altogether too on-the-nose. Practically 'per-fic' in every way, Zeta Jones is the complete package: she has beauty, talent, drive, and her share of good luck. It makes you wonder why she isn't an even bigger Read more
