In this crime comedy, Martin Lawrence plays a thief who emerges from prison and is horrified to find that the construction site where he had hidden a stolen jewel is now a police station. Joining the boys in blue, his “wrong side of the law” approach to crime-solving yields some extraordinary results. Unlike so many action comedies, director Les Mayfield's film boasts an intricate and cleverly structured plot, though the tension is undermined by Lawrence's wild overacting. Highly reminiscent of Eddie Murphy's early (funny) movies, not to mention the 1965 British comedy The Big Job that starred Sid James, this may be unashamedly lowbrow entertainment, but it's great fun nonetheless.

  • A corny excuse for a comedy is given occasional life by the vigorous performance of its star, but even he cannot salvage such hand-me-down material.

    Brilliant - just pure brilliance

I have watched this film over 30 times and still love it, you can not beat the comedy that Martin Lawrence offers or the fast moving action the film delivers.

One of the best movies around, it offers humour, action, effects and a good storyline which makes it a classic family film, if you don't get this you will regret it

    Ace film.

This film is excellent. Original storyline, bit far fetched but Martin Lawrence makes the movie. It's a bit like Starsky and Hutch in that it's very much a boys toys action movie, and the ending goes a bit awry, but it keeps you watching right to the end.
