Subject deserved better...

Though essentially a fictionalised piece surrounding the hours up to the assassination of Robert F Kennedy, this is is a frustratingly bitty piece that, rather than making an important piece of modern history more interesting, is diluted by so many diverse stories, it loses your concentration and interest. You can see the intentions of the story were right, but it just never once takes off. One oddity that still springs to my mind - despite the USA having more heads of state assassinated than any other country in the world, at age 18 you can get a shotgun or rifle (not handgun) in the USA, but you can't drink until 21... Is this the wrong way round or is it me... let 'em get drunk at 18 - but not shoot anyone until they are over 21.. now that makes more sense.!
oh well.. rant over... back to the film, it is more or less like a US TV series and perhaps should have been, as a film it isn't too much, and not really worth 2 hours of your time to sit through.- Was this review helpful to you?

liked the back stories with all the characters & also the way the film didn't focus too much on bobby kennedy & actually showed you original footage at the time of his presidential announcement & beyond.

Misleading title, waste of time
By a customer , 09 Oct 2012Movie has a misleading title. It's not the story of Bobby Kennedy at all. It's a 'claim to fame' - it's the story of a number of people who were close to the incident .... such as a chef in the hotel etc.
Poor acting, shambolic & rambling story line. Painful to watch all the way through, if you can bear it.- Was this review helpful to you?

Terribly written, deeply self-indulgent
By RachelM (3 reviews) , 06 Mar 2012This was quite honestly the dullest and most self-serving piece of tripe I've ever had the misfortune to see (and I am counting the recent remake of 'Clash of the Titans').
Pace, expectation, dramatic tension - all were sacrificed to make way for a throng of Hollywood's royalty, jostling for poorly-written roles in a moist-eyed, soft-focus tribute to the Kennedy clan. I have to admit that I gave up after about an hour, so possibly it improved towards the end, but I really doubt it.
A shame, because I would have been interested in a genuine biographical drama about an interesting period in American history.- Was this review helpful to you?

Memorable film, some wonderful performances
By a customer , 23 Feb 2012Could have been a bit of a mess given the large cast, and some of the parts are a bit of a throwaway; for example, Heather Graham's switchboard operator role is superfluous. But other parts, even very small parts, tell a great story and are superbly acted. Lawrence Fishbourne's much too brief appearance as a chef who knows how to advise angry and persecuted young men but can also graciously express gratitude is a standout performance; so too are those of Demi Moore and Sharon Stone in the one scene they share. Emilio Estevez' direction is precise and makes the whole, complex story of the wide range of people who were in the Ambassador Hotel on the day of Bobby Kennedy's assassination seem beautifully choreographed. Despite the tragedy of the event the day is remembered for, this is a reminder that everyone's story matters.- Was this review helpful to you?
