historical perspective

When Body Heat came out, it was the hottest film around. It kept that position until 9 1/2 Weeks. From today's perspective the story might seem a bit thin, but I still find the movie enjoyable. In particular, keep your eyes open for Ted Danson and Mickey Rourke, who are great in supporting roles.- Was this review helpful to you?

A real sensual movie, with lots of sex and nudity.
However, it still has a lot of twists and turns.
Looks slightly dated now, acting is slightly Ham(This was Kathleen Turner's first movie and Hurts second) and the music used in the film is awful. Horrible porn movie saxaphone music.
I'd recommend this to any couples out there who want to get close on the couch. If it worked back in the 1980's, it'll still work today ;)- Was this review helpful to you?

Steamed Up Like A Sauna
By Doghouse-Reilly (4 reviews) from Horsham , 03 May 2012OK so I'm a sucker for Noir, but I thought this a hugely enjoyable 80s homage to the genre - right up there on a par with 'The Long Goodbye' & the Paul Newman 'Harper' colour neo-noirs - which I also thoroughly recommend.
Soaking up the sultry atmosphere of Florida nights, as our classic femme fatale closes in with the sweaty mist, feels like taking a sauna - the claustrophobic Body Heat of the title - and conjures up the spirit of Bogie & Bacall in 'Key Largo' before the storm. Yes of course it's completely derivative stuff (of 'Double Indemnity' above all) - but if it's the kinda sweaty stuff you like, well - who gives a stuff?- Was this review helpful to you?

Steamy and captivating

It has aged well (1981) and remains a tense steamy erotic thriller full of suspense. It is uncomfortable to watch but you cannot look away and you do not know who to believe or trust. A credible stab at neo noir

Well, the young Kathleen Turner was sexy in a self confident but brittle way Hollywood simply doesn't do any more. William Hurt turns in one of his beautiful understated performances as a man jaded enough to be desperate. Ted Danson and Mickey Rourke provide terrific and subtle support.
The photography conveys makes the heatwave tangible and the the dialogue is smart enough.
It stops well short of greatness because some of the plotting is untidy and it just isn't quite as taut as it ought to be but it's weel worth a look- Was this review helpful to you?
