Diesel-powered boiler burns out

Boiler Room is a blistering film which manages to make phones n finance seem more exciting than guns n ammo. It also has a surprising amount of heart, particularly in the candid and heartfelt depiction of the main character's desperation to win his father's respect. My only gripe with Boiler Room is that the ending is overly abrupt and totally unsatisfying, which is why I'd give it 3 stars rather than 4.
By the way, Vin Diesel is mighty in this film. He should put away his muscles more often.- Was this review helpful to you?

In a lot of ways this film seems dated because it came out at time when the finance industry was flying high, (and the general public had no beef with it!) Affleck's speeches to the new rookies are good and Vin Diesel is great in his role as a senior broker. The protagonist Ribisi is initially running a back street illegal Casino where he makes a good living and its only by chance that he gets into the broking game. The thing is J. T. Malin sell stocks in companies that don't exist, (they're a Boiler Room), and do a, 'Pump And Dump.' Interestingly Ribisi says that he used to sell to people in the flesh what they wanted, but now he doesn't even see who he sells to and sells them stuff they don't want. The film had you really feeling for the guy he tried to rip of who lost deposit on house.
If this is what real stockbroking is like then i'm glad i'm not in that racket,but that aside it was an interesting film,well depicted and i could imagine most of it is how they would operate who are on silly money.- Was this review helpful to you?

good performances but too many cliches
By itstinks (681 reviews) from North of Reading , 12 Jun 2012A drop out runs a home casino and gets invited to join a trading company. He's a little naive but wonders how the system works so that he and the others can make the money they do.
His investigation shows the flaws in the system and the morality expected of the traders.
The traders quote Wall Street by heart and he has issues with trying to impress his father similarly to Charlie and Martin Sheen.
The film misses a Michael Douglas figure but at least this doesn't confuse the issue that these are crooks not heroes.- Was this review helpful to you?

good film for those who like that kinda thing

Get The F**k Up...Money Talks!

According to the disclaimer at the beginning of this feature, it clearly states that this is purely fiction.
Which by the current news casts, it certainly dont seem like it!
It feels so incredible real and the facts explained in this are so freaking astonishing.
Its just like the Oliver Stone movie WALL STREET with Michael Douglas...only set in this new Millennium.
Greed, Love, Betrayal, Friendship, Comradeship and Loyalty.
