Silly and campy and generally crazy, Bolly Double is definitely an enjoyable movie. I noticed on imdb that this film was originally titled Lookalike -- and I kind of wish they had kept it that way. It just makes more sense to me after watching the film. Past experience has taught me to avoid anything associated with the word “bolly”, but in this case I was glad my girlfriend forced me to watch the film. There were a few (short) song and dance numbers that integrated into the plot, but in general the film was more like a Hollywood screwball comedy from the 40s. You don't need to have any prior knowledge of Hindi cinema to get the movies point. Underneath the over-the-top comedy and dance numbers, the film is a really a satire on the clichés of formula films -- which could apply equally as much to Hollywood movies since the 80s as it does to contemporary Bollywood. I was surprised to see car chases, fight sequences, songs and dances etc. in such a low budget film. First time writer/director Arun Bharali did a good job of making the most of his resources. Overall, he managed to deliver a feel good entertaining film that kept me engaged for two hours. He also showcases his dialog skills without being over-the-top. My favorite line has to be 'He has a job and a Honda Accord.' The oft repeated message in the movie that it's 'never too late', contributes to the general sense of feel-good sweetness, and although the movie's doesn’t rival Industrial Light and Magic from a technical point of view, you can tell its heart's in the right place, and good intentions do count for something after all. I'd recommend this movie to anyone who wants a good laugh.

I like the music and the imagery used in the film. I appreciate the difference from the traditional (?) Bollywood films in terms of the use of music and dance.

Poor. Fake Indian accents & surprisingly poor acting from the supporting roles. Was interested to find that it was in Enlisg & drawn to watch it.

  • Not a true 'bollywood' film

Not a film I would usually choose to watch, but was much better than I was expecting, quite clever plotlines if a little predictable at times. Certainly worth a watch. I would say it's not a true 'bollywood' film, more of a film about making bollywood films, lol.

An intended spoof on bollywood passed as 'bollywood gener' dont really set the track right.

Well this movie tried to have all the formula scenes of the entire bollywood industry in just one single peice. And oh! it does it so pathetically.

There has been better attempt at even spoof-making than this. A complete waste for those who know bollywood and completly not a bollywood flick for those who want to know bollywood.

  • Good fun and story!

I watched this movie as my friend highly recommended it to me. I wasn't sure about it at first because I am not a big fan of Bollywood kind of movies, but this one have made me wrong! It is fun and very enjoyable to watch! It is a Canadian - Bollywood movie about Kavita, who works in a video store in Toronto. She loves Bollywood movies and her favourite Bollywood superstar is Kohinoor. Kavita would like to be like Kohinoor in the future but she faces some challenges on the way along. The story is fast pacing and certainly provide you a good entertainment. Highly recommend it!
