  • Enjoyable enough post-apocalyptic adventure

This was an enjoyable enough post-apocalypse movie in the style of Mad Max 3. The acting is decent, the cinematography is suitably grim, and the plot is suitably standard. Washington's titular character has the last bible, they were all of them burned after the apocalypse happened. Gary Oldman's Carnegie wants it to control the masses. So the chase begins. The actions scenes are a joy to watch as they become even more outlandish, Washington kicks butt like never before. There are also nice touches which need to be seen to be believed. The ending is surprisingly uplifting as Eli succeeds in his mission. Drawbacks would be that it is plain bible bashing at its finest and some underwritten characters. None the less an enjoyable movie, probably wait to rent it on DVD rather than see it on the big screen.

  • Great film

I enjoyed this film from start to finish. The story was well written and script was great. Not and action packed film but had enough to keep up the entertainment value. Not fast paced as there is a detailed story that needs to be followed, good for a quiet night in with friends, partner or on your own.

  • Much like its subject matter, it is flawed but has virtues

It is a flawed screenplay that performs a frustrating side-step of certain issues, about which I cannot be detailed without spoiling the film, and it featured an under-developed first half, but the Hughes' great visual flair, sound and music, fantastic performances, and an impressively poetic use of metaphor for the righteous vs. the corrupt, make 'The Book of Eli' a film worth watching.

  • good movie - rubbish premise

an excellent movie: dark, well shot, well played, well directed, no fault there. But what a dumb central idea. Let's face it, The Good Book (whichever one you choose) is never likely to save us - mostly it (they) has been the cause of conflict. Of course, I may have missed the point...

This film was much better than I expected it to be. I started to watch it and I wasn't sure. However, I loved it once I got into it. I thought it was a good film. All parts were played brilliantly

Dreadful! Over long, pretentious waste of time. Denzel is a good actor but was wooden in this (to be fair, so was everyone else). The story seems to be going nowhere so a fight scene is lobbed in to try to wake the viewer up. Even the lovely Mila Kunis couldn't get me too watch it til the end.
