LOVEFiLM Review

By Tom Charity from LOVEFiLM
Sacha Baron Cohen's Borat movie is one of the funniest and most outragious movies of our time. American comedy has been testing taboos around bad taste with some vigor over the last decade, but Borat takes bad manners to the level of an art form.

Uncomfortable
By a customer from Glasgow, Scotland , 24 May 2007[Highly rated reviewer]
I can't go along with the popular view of this film. This is difficult comedy. Its difficult in the way that Lenny Bruce is difficult. You can rationalise it or just go with the flow but the ugly naked guy wrestling and the jokes riding on jew-bashing and so on are not, to me, the stuff of easy slapstick. Now I am not saying this is antisemitic or anything like it; its the opposite, but I just felt uncomfortable and didn't laugh more than very occasionally.- Was this review helpful to you?

(819)Love It
By a customer , 09 Oct 2012It's funny but makes you think and is an excellent parody of closed-minded people. Yes, he indulges the occasional, or frequent, outburst of racism, but it is used to devastating effect and produces the kind of results that a Humanities teacher could only dream of; an instant insight into the minds and thinking of some people.- Was this review helpful to you?

His best character by 3 and a half miles and an extra lap of the playing fields.
By Jason-illybobs (2 reviews) , 15 Sep 2012I can count on the fingers of one hand the number of films which have repeatedly reduced me to a gibbering, giggling boy. This is one of them. It is packed full of belly bursting laughter almost all the way through. I say almost because when not doubled over in helpless hysteria, you will also spend a fair amount of time emitting gasps while peeking though your fingers at some of the most cringeworthily awkward moments committed to film. Baron Cohen is a master of spontaneous satire and as natural at slapstick physical comedy as the likes of Chaplin and Keaton.
If you are the type who is easily offended, and spends most of their Sunday afternoon writing into points of view, you may not enjoy this. Which is a shame because you are really missing out!- Was this review helpful to you?

Painful to watch
By a customer , 14 Jul 2011A couple of laugh out loud moments but otherwise just painful to watch. Guess the humour wasn't for me, cringe-worthy in places. If you're considering it because you feel you should because of the hype, I wouldn't bother- Was this review helpful to you?

Pretty Good.
By VikkiJonny (15 reviews) from St. Ives , 22 May 2011It was funny but Ali G was so much better than this. Overall i wouldn't mind watching it again, it has some memorable moments which is always good for a film.- Was this review helpful to you?
