    [Highly rated reviewer]

while watching the film i had low exspectations for this film , thinking it is going to be a cheap horror film with cgi work going on , but is blew my exspectations right out of the way!

the film delivers were not many torture films succeed eg hostel captivity etc , yes most torture films obviously have gore but it brings fear, tension , supspence and in one scene had me stuck to the seat , and which makes it even worse this is based on a true story which had me thinking that all the stuff actually happened .

Three college students, Phil (Rider Strong), Ed (Brian Presley), and Henry (Jake Muxworthy) take a road trip into Mexico for a week of drinking and carefree fun only to have Phil find himself a captive of a group of satanic Mexican drug smugglers who kill tourists and whom are looking for a group of new ones to prepare for a sacrifice.

But unlike hostel which i didnt feel anything for the characters , but in this film i wanted everyone to be fine ( obviously not) , like actor Rider Strong who has apperances in a few horror films , was the stand-out actor in the whole film.

if you want to see a film thatll leave you on the edge of your seat with gore and with an actually story line to it which works than please watch this film , you will not regret it because i didnt ..

‘Compact’ is the word I’d use to describe Borderland. It doesn’t offer anything revolutionary which will blow your mind, but, if you’re a fan of the genre, you should find it satisfying. It follows the (familiar) story of X good-looking young Americans, travelling to X and running into trouble in the form of X. Sometimes these packs of good-looking young Americans are girls, sometimes boys, other time a mixed group. Sometimes they travel to a remote town in America, sometimes a remote town in Europe. Once they get to where they’re going, they run into trouble in the form of zombie/vampires/ghosts/rednecks/cannibals – choose your ‘nasty.’ In this instance, three lads travel to Mexico and get mixed up with… well, you’ll have to watch it to find out. Like I say, the story is pretty generic. I’ve seen plenty of these sorts of movies (you can probably tell by my cynical tone), but this one is pretty reasonable. The protagonists aren’t (completely) unlikeable, don’t do (too many) stupid things and you can basically root for their plight. If you like this sort of film, give it a go. Trust me, there are many worse than this (and I’ve sat through almost every last one of them).

    Absolutely dire!

First few minutes were good, but took ages after that to get anywhere even close to watchable!

Don't waste your time watching this.

  • Job Well Done

Look - In general I am looking for a good thriller and not too much gore. House of Wax is not my scene. This being said, I nearly ditched this film before I even got to the credits. If you can stomach that scene...that is the worst gore you will see, and the remainder of the film is pure thriller. It is horrifying because you know/think it is based on true events. It is also thrilling because you never know when/if the good guys will win. All in all - a really well done horror/thriller (my god I am using a lot of '/') but yes, a job well done to the director/writer/producer. A very interesting movie overall...and quite pertinent to today's reality that we all hear about in Mexico...I think. Don't come after me. :-)
