Most helpful review

I normally love French films but this one was excrutiatingly boring with formulaic acting. The story line was fairly obvious and the direction very stilted. The only redeeming feature was the occasional glimpse of lovely French countryside.- Was this review helpful to you?

(7)Superb film overall. A great insight into French politics
By FRENCHIEX (84 reviews) from London , 15 Feb 2013Much better film than I thought, well worth watching if you have 3 hours. Being French helps understand the political feelings expressed throughout, although I disagreed with some as we were not a Mitterand household at all :) Laetitia Casta shows she can act, so does all the cast. We get to care about each character, the stories take you from the 60's to less than 5 years ago. Really enjoyed it and so did my French sister.- Was this review helpful to you?

Good - ish.
By Thegaycritic (72 reviews) , 12 Aug 2012Not a classic, but think I enjoyed it more than others on here. I know a little more about French politics now.- Was this review helpful to you?

hardly revolutionary
By papatez (293 reviews) from folkestone , 18 Mar 2011Meant to show how revolutionary students from the sixties challenged the 'establishment' and set up their own community - I think! Trouble is I got bored, missed the point and hit the eject button about half way through- Was this review helpful to you?

A retrospective look at a time I lived through
By OscarFreak (416 reviews) from London , 18 Jan 2011I remember the riots of 1968 in France and the unrest it caused and the impact it had on the lives of students at the time and how it effected some of their lives since. Perhaps a little long and some judicial pruning may have helped some scenes be more effective but overall a very watchable film. One thing that did strike me was that France was also suffering from the long hot summer of 1976 as much as the UK something which was played down at the time.- Was this review helpful to you?

Do I Care
By a customer from Preston , 26 Sep 2010The fundamental requirement of any film is that the viewer should care - about the characters, about the situations, about the challenges within the story. And I didn't! An hour into it and i thought I had been sitting there for days.
The period in which it was set drew me to the film - i am of the same generation as the protagonists so i was waiting to be fascinated, to be given a different perspective, to view a reflection on a time that i lived through. It was a long wait..........for no great return.- Was this review helpful to you?
