This bang-on-target satire of low-budget Hollywood film-making contains Steve Martin's best comic performance since Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. Martin plays an ambitious but financially challenged director who's unable to sign up A-list action star Kit Ramsey (Eddie Murphy) for his new sci-fi project. So he follows the actor around, setting up various silly scenarios and filming Kit's shocked reactions to insert into his movie that features a lookalike (also played by Murphy). Martin — who also wrote the hilarious screenplay — and Murphy are immensely engaging, and there's sparkling support from Heather Graham as a talentless actress who's quite prepared to sleep her way to the top. While The Player was a snarling, sharp-toothed beast, director Frank Oz's fun send-up of Tinseltown is a cute and cuddly companion piece.
Martin reminds us why he was once considered the funniest white man in America with this silly, savvy satire on... read more on Time Out
Mildly amusing comedy of Hollywood wheeling and dealing, with a few good jokes but rather more poor ones.
Great film with great script and acting especially by Kingsley. Not sure about the dream sequences though. Thoroughly recommended!
This film is for die hard fans only, below average performances from Eddie Murphy & Steve Martin.
If u want a gud laugh then this film is 4 u its by far the best comedy movie that i have seen 4 many years.

This film does have it's moments , a couple of times I found I laughed out loud (at Eddie Murphy), but it just didn't happen enough . I found myself thinking , when is the next laugh coming . Eddie Murphy is fantastic in this film , I had forgotten how funny this man is , im also a Steve Martin fan , but it's Eddie who gets all the laughs in this film . After reading all the 5 star reviews I was hoping for a classic , I don'r know how this film could be classed as that . Sorry

The end of the film is a must see, hammed up brilliantly.

Clever story, well acted and directed. I like it.
This isn't the best Eddie Murphy movie and I must admit that I was expecting more. Steve Martin and Eddie Murphy are 2 comedy legends but this script really let them down. Only watch if you have nothing else.
Decent film this - Martin and Murphy, despite their recent commercial downturn, are always good value, especially Murphy's brilliant depiction of the geeky unsuccessful brother.
Not on a par with 'Planes, Trains and Automobiles' but enjoyable nonetheless.
oh my god this was very hard to sit through. im a great eddie murphy fan but this was awful, the best bit was the out takes where eddie murphy messes up and giggles now and again. avoid this at all costs !! Yak!
Movie-producer Steve Martin [Bringing Down The House] gives away one of the biggest secrets of tinsel-town, every movie made costs the same to produce & he has the few-hundred dollars in a box to create his own masterpiece. To obtain distribution he stars Eddie Murphy [Dreamgirls] by filming supporting actors around him without Eddies knowledge. Everything was going to plan until

"...Inspired funny business that allows Martin to hilariously torpedo Hollywood's corrupt heart..."
"...So smart and biting that we relish it....[Murphy] gives the performance of his life..."
"...Real accuracy and sting come in Robert Downey Jr's brilliant cameo..."
