Rite of passage perfection!

Superb...never a dull moment during a series of dull moments for an 8 year old Maori boy...typically sweet with all the carefree invincibilty of youth, you will learn to love the characters and their innocent rural upbringing...
Learning about their predictable lives is simply charming, running parallel to windy beachside locations and calming sea ambience which are significant in maintaining naturalism within a child's world... Tugging at your heartstrings are boy's first encounters with his father and it is from this point that the film develops focus...
The editing is uncomplicated but maybe a touch unoriginal and could be criticised as typical fare... I loved the child actors who show great talent... Tho the film can be criticised for being shallow in emotional tone... It is quite clear that the director wants to show the world thru this boys eyes and he has truly succeeded...- Was this review helpful to you?

By a customer , 02 Jan 2012This film is an absolute gem.
Being everything you could want in a film from funny to poignant, Boy captivates you for the entire run-time.
The casting is superior, the acting genius, the story endearing, the direction beautiful and the style, fresh.
A MUST SEE!!!!
I think it is the best film in the last five years.- Was this review helpful to you?
