Humorous and satirical take on Australian perceptions of Aborigines
By a customer , 15 Jul 2011[Highly rated reviewer]
A real gem: great acting and a script that touches on many ill informed views of Australian Aborigines, with songs to jolly along the satire. There are some very perceptive gags that I can't repeat because they'd be a spoiler. I can say though, that this film is far more than superficial, existential, s**t!
Don't expect a slick Hollywood production, a Bollywood musical or a British gritty drama. You're getting an indigenous take on many aspects of 1960s (and some 2010s) views with some tappy songs, C&W and gospel. Look out for the Aboriginal group doing Zorba the Greek (unfortunately their scene is not long enough!) and a groovy version of Stand By Your Man. Some pleasing scenery shots that were not digitally enhanced! (Shame on Baz Luhrmann).- Was this review helpful to you?

(3)Dire Nue Day
By Boulbon (73 reviews) from Chiswick , 06 Aug 2011We managed to watch almost an hour of this painful caricature of a musical before giving up. It reminded us of the worst excesses of children's television.
We hoped for an entertaining film starring indigenous Australians; alas this was not entertaining so much as embarrassing.
Can't imagine who would enjoy Bran Nue Dae - we didn't.- Was this review helpful to you?

\mushy musical mania
By R.G.Peace from Buckinghamshire , 15 Jul 2011From what could have been an interesting Ozzie film we got just a predictable romp through a predictable passage of travlel and scenery across Western Australia. Rush gave a fair performance except for his odd South African accent. The singing was tacky and manic. Sorry- Was this review helpful to you?
