A GREAT British Film
By paulo99 (18 reviews) from Northampton , 02 Aug 2004[Highly rated reviewer]
This film can not be praised enough. The clever humour of Blackadder, the emotion of a true tearjerker, and the feel good ending of Four Weddings. The story of a dying mining community fighting back thru' humour and their brass band is truly uplifting - check it out, you won't regret it, and then buy the soundtrack to keep your memories fresh.- Was this review helpful to you?

(52)Touching story and beautiful music
By a customer , 19 May 2013A beautiful film, full with humanity and emotion with a brilliant role by Pete Postlethwaite. As the story unfolds, you get to experience the dilemmas and pain of the miners, each family with it's own story. The music serves as a binding force in the community and when the mine is about to be closed, it's a particularly tough time for the members of the brass band.- Was this review helpful to you?

By kenym (16 reviews) , 01 Jan 2013Excellent portrayal of the life and death of a colliery band and the destruction of the UK mining industry. The movie is well acted and the brass band music is superb , well recommended- Was this review helpful to you?

Well worth watching
By RafalPielka (2 reviews) , 26 Dec 2012Maybe a little dated, perhaps a little too political, possibly predictable - undoubtedly an uplifting story of class differences, social struggle and brass bands.- Was this review helpful to you?

The full Monty for miners
By a customer , 10 Oct 2012Brilliant I had forgot how good this film was. With a story line as moving as the music accompanying it - it was a humbling reminder of the callous and calculating way mining communities were destroyed under Thatcher. Yes it may have a political message but don't be put of - this film is witty with lots of sub plots. Done with similar style and aplomb as the Full Monty - but better!- Was this review helpful to you?

Hugely Improved Print on BLU RAY
By Baz (104 reviews) from London , 17 Jun 2012'Brassed Off' still stands up - funny, crushingly sad at times and a poignant reminder of 150 pit closures and the loss of a quarter of a million jobs.
However - what I wanted to concentrate on is the truly amazing picture quality on this BLU RAY.
I've had the DVD for years and it was good rather than great. Well something magical seems to have happened in BR translation because there are times when this print looks beautiful - its never been so clear or so defined.
Having sat through some terrible British films in the last few years (all we're told are masterpieces) - it's nice to look back on one that actually is.
'Brassed Off' is a triumph on BLU RAY - finally given the print its always deserved. And it's a great way to remember the mighty Pete...- Was this review helpful to you?
