Get this if you haven't seen it yet. The film is sheer genious. Mel Gibson's best film ever in my view...

Lets get this out of the way.....I know that its not historically accurate so stop going on about it. Being Scottish myself I know the difference between historical fact and a piece of entertainment. As a film to sit and watch it is great and on Blu-ray even better. The supporting cast are what makes this film shine, Brendan Gleeson, David O'Hara, James Cosmo and Patrick McGoohan are fantastic and really bring their characters to life. Many say it's anti-english, possably but how many english films/tv has been anti-scottish over the years? I wonder.

watched this on Video and DVD, seeing it in Blu Ray was even better. As a Scot, it always makes me cry at the internal, political betrayal! Great motivaltional film, even if not historically accurate!

But the acting is good, Mel Gibson looks sexy in a kilt and it is beautifully directed and acted. Personally, it's not a masterpiece and not that accurate but it's worth wathing it at least once. Probably the fact that it is that long it put me off watching it before

  • One of the worst films I've ever seen.

As the title says, definitely one of the worst films I've ever seen (and I'm Scottish). I can understand why people like it, yeah some Scottish guy led some Scots against an English army and won, and that may be what actually happened at first, two battles maybe? I definitely know of one (Which I don't recall seeing in the film), think I read about another. But he eventually did lose and then fled for around 7 years and I don't recall seeing that in the film. But yes, I'm sure he was dragged through the streets (naked) by a horse, hanged for a short time and cut off his man hood and then beheaded him.

I know I'm basing this review on the horrible accuracy of this film, but its not just that. I'm not a massive Mel Gibson fan, and that isn't the reason either, but I just don't understand why they didn't get someone Scottish or someone who could hold a good Scottish accent through a film to play W.W, even though I guess he did do a good job in playing him but I don't how he'd act but even the rest of the acting was sup par.

I think the thing that makes me hate the film most is not the film itself its the people that watch it and get fanatical about it Scottish pride. And its always the neds and football fans that take it so seriously. How can you base pride for your country and hatred on another on a film like this? It just makes me want to strangle somebody.

Unless I lost all ability to think for myself and can get passed the terrible inaccuracy I just will never be able to enjoy it.

Complete waste of time and I've watched it more than once, tried to enjoy but I just couldn't. The only thing this film makes me feel is shame, especially during his 'freedom' speech, it just makes me want to put my head in my hands and cry.

If you're some teenage in secondary school by all means watch it so you don't feel left out (since people who really care for it are teenagers), but if you've even got half a brain I would just steer clear of this.

From start to finish a truely fantastic film.Bringing to the big screen the story of william wallace and his constant struggle to fight for the freedom of his country. For many people watching the film, the main criticism for them is that the film is not accurate.the film is not meant to be based soley on the life of william wallace-it is based on the book 'blind harrys wallace'.although he is criticised i feel mel gibson does a good job of playing wallace and puts across the main storyline of his life.

Reading some other reviews there seems to be alot of people saying the film is biggoted which is simply not true-was shindlers list racist towards the germans? so why is this film racist for telling the true story of the english trying to take control of a nation that was not theirs to take?As a scot i am passionate about my country and i am very interested and proud of my countrys history and i have studied it for many years-but i am not racist towards the english and take offence to saying that to feel proud of your history is to be racist.

Of coure there are parts of the film dramatised for the big screen but the storyline taken is true-wallace did fight against the english-he was fighting for the freedom of his nation.

Overall braveheart is a truely epic and moving film and as a scot i have to say it makes the hairs on the back of your neck stand. My advice is to just watch the film and try to see it for what it is-a great, moving and inspiring film.
