Excellent espionage... and true to life too..
By PaulaWestwood (397 reviews) from Ashton-Under-Lyne , 01 Sep 2007[Highly rated reviewer]
Forget it if you want Bond style shoot em up and chase em style cinematised spy games, this is based on true events, and is an excellent interesting and informative watch. everyone in this paints the picture well, but Chris Cooper as the main man Rober Hannsen is outstanding. Bond paced it might not be, enthrallingly interesting it is. Definately worthy of a watch, Recommended.- Was this review helpful to you?

(187)Spy Games
By Grenville (26 reviews) , 17 May 2013This is an interesting film, more for the story it tells than for any great acting or technical feats. There is so much material in the real life spy saga that a 2-hour film probably doesn't do it justice, and it is probably better suited to a TV series. Within its own terms, the film is a watchable thriller.- Was this review helpful to you?

Well-above average spy film with wider appeal to anyone wanting non-stop tense plot.
By roncoach (365 reviews) from suffolk , 15 Jul 2012The 'spy' genre is one of my favourite types, so I am quite discerning when it comes to reviewing such movies. That means that I may be being harsh, if anything, in not awarding 4 stars. But, trying to be objective, I think 3. 5 is about right, though I would not argue with those who view it as 4*.
It is a good, bordering on very good, film. Excellent performance from Chris Cooper and good solid stuff, too, from Ryan Phillippe. Director does well, script is good, the tension is there throughout the film.
A true story makes it even more intriguing.
It's all been done before, of course, in US,UK and everywhere else with a film industry -------suspected 'mole' in the organisation, in this case the FBI.
So it has to be good to stand up to so many other similar storylines. And it achieves that.
I would put down the success to 2 main features of this film.
First, the outstanding performance from Chris Cooper----surely one of the finest character actors of the past 10-15 years, and a worthy Academy Award Winner during his career.
Second, the intrigue and tension and uncertainty makes the film like a book you don't want to put down till you've finished it........surely one of the signs of a film well-worth watching.
I highly recommend this movie.- Was this review helpful to you?

A Superb Thriller
By Cato (705 reviews) from Lydbury North , 01 Jun 2012Great thriller where you know whodunit right from the beginning. This doesn't matter as the story is told in such an enthralling way and the performances, particularly from Chris Cooper, are so mesmerisingly well done, that you are left edge of seat bound until right at the end. The musical score by Mychael Danna is so beautifully restrained it's almost as if Beethoven was alive and writing music for the cinema. This is a modern masterpiece and should be watched more than once.- Was this review helpful to you?

Breach 2007
By Ricia (153 reviews) , 07 Apr 2012What a great film of intrigue, deceit and espinage. It was so well written, it really kept you guessing , Was he really someone who had turned, or was it someone else in his circle and he was really innocent? The 'character' Robert Hanssen was so paranoia and suspicious that he kept you guessing?!! Would Eric get his man? Great watching- Was this review helpful to you?

Creepy Cooper on form
By Nitaray (222 reviews) from Farnham , 03 Mar 2012Any movie that stars Chris Cooper of course, is almost guaranteed to be first rate. 'Breach' is just that. Cooper can be more frightening with a single glance than a fit of rage from a lesser actor.
Its taut, tense, and engrossing. Ryan Phillipe plays the rookie FBI agent well. He has the babyface looks for it; but later on, as he becomes involved in the trap to catch a major spy, he visibly matures. Good acting all round and an edge of the seat ending.- Was this review helpful to you?
