A muscular Western featuring the fisticuffs of Bronson. In 1870, the soldiers at an Army outpost in Utah are supposedly suffering from a diphtheria epidemic. A train heads toward the fort filled with soldiers, medical supplies and Bronson, an undercover agent posing as an arrested criminal. There, he makes a stunning discovery: there is no epidemic, but there is a conspiracy between a group of killers and a tribe of Indians. Fabled stunt man Yakima Canutt helped out, and boxer Archie Moore shows his stuff.

In this inconsequential Alistair MacLean caper, Charles Bronson plays an undercover agent on the trail of gunrunners and running into a murder mystery. And, if that wasn't enough, the plot is thickened by an outbreak of diphtheria. There are more red herrings than a chef could wave a skillet at, for this is really Agatha Christie in western garb, complete with a wonderful old steam train that steals every scene in which it appears. A pity that it's Bronson, not Burt Reynolds, for this pretty daft enterprise should have sent itself up. Ben Johnson, Jill Ireland and Richard Crenna coast through it.
Botched murder mystery on wheels: there are some exciting scenes, but the plot makes little sense and the 'action finale' is muddled.
A military outpost is struck with an outbreak of diphtheria. Medical supplies and replacement soldiers are sent by train. As the trains wends its way through mountains during winter, passengers are murdered one by one.
John Deakin (Bronson), a wanted man, is the prime suspect. However, is he the only one?
Pretty good whodunnit. Should keep you guessing until the very end.
Bronson gives his usual stone faced performance. Ben Johnson and Richard Crenna are useful and give weight to the movie.
As a lover of westerns I thought this one to be better than average with a few twists and turns along the way. Almost the whole film takes place on a train and I was freezing with the rest of the cast(real snow).
