Never seen the French original, so have nothing to compare this with. But I’ve seen this before on the telly, so was aware of the charms of Valerie Kaprisky! There is very little point to watching this film, apart from the anticipation of seeing her gorgeous body (and, I guess, that of Gere for the ladies). It seems like a predictable story of a bad guy meets sophisticated girl. There is little to explain how the initially sceptical Monica is won over by him. There is also little to the plot or script.

I rented this movie as I am a big fan of 'Richard Gere' but even I have to admit that I was a little disappointed with this American attempt of a 1950's French classic.

'Jessie' (Richard Gere) is a small time thief, strutting his way through life with his charming good looks & general cockiness. After accidentally killing a Vegas cop, Jessie goes on the run to Mexico, stopping off first in LA to pick up the object of his obsession, beautiful French college student 'Monica' (Valerie Kaprisky).

A shirtless Gere is as gorgeous as ever and you can't help wanting to watch him until the end credits, even though his character comes across as very annoying in parts.

'Kaprisky' clearly can't act too well but what she lacks in talent, she makes up for with her sensual beauty and perfect body (Lots of naked scenes for the guys).

If you want to see Gere giving memorable performances that really steal your heart, then I suggest these rentals 'Sommersby, First Knight, American Gigolo, Pretty Woman and 'An Officer And A Gentleman'. :)

I heard about this in relation to the Fantastic Four and its mention of the Silver Surfer.

The film is basically about a guy who goes through life stealing cars and money.

He shoots a police man by accident and tries to escape to Mexico... very slowly!

He goes to LA to convince a girl he shagged in Las Vegas to come with him (He fails to say he's on the run).

Given the fact that he's killed a man he show very little interest in escaping and there is no sense of urgency other than a few outbursts.

Richard Gere is such a tool in this film I was shouting for him to get shot at the end of the film which would have mad it a whole lot better.

He plays the guy who has such emotional problems he's verging on the schizophrenic and the girl he is after has only one saving grace that her boobs seem to fall out quite a lot.

Regarding the fantastic four he simply explains the story in several chunks….

If you want the fantastic four or the Silver Surfer just rent that instead

2 Stars at best, its dated badly and Richard Gere plays this up like a kid in year 1 acting school.
