Daniel Day-Lewis is to be honoured with the top prize at the 2009 British Independent Film Awards. American Gangster beats Beowulf to #1

Ridley Scott's newest effort American Gangster has beaten Beowulf to the top of the UK box office chart. For the weekend beginning November 16th, American Gangster took approximately £2.56 million while Beowulf debuted with around £2.19 million, according to AC Nielsen data. The two new entries spent their first week ahead of Ratatouille, the animated tale of a rat who is a rather talented chef.
