Top-class drama set in the 1920s

Writer, John Mortimer, is at his best with this adaptation. Beautiful English, superbly spoken by those such as Jeremy Irons, the main character. There are excellent cameo roles for Sir John Gielgud, Sir Laurence Olivier and Mona Washborne. Every one of the main characters is well cast and the haunting theme music runs throughout. Basically it is the story of the relationship between an artist (Irons) and an aristocratic, Catholic family who live in a stately home. The action runs over a period of about 10 years and is set in Oxford University, Brideshead (the country home) and the Queen Elizabeth liner. Some episodes also visit Venice and North Africa. Enjoyable from beginning to end and one of the best TV dramas ever to grace our screens.
