If it weren't for sterling performances from Claire Danes and Kate Beckinsale, this would be yet another turgid rehash of the plot in which nice American kids get burnt by drug laws in Thailand. After high school, the two friends travel to Asia for a holiday but unwittingly become involved in a drugs scam and are arrested for heroin possession. Slammed in a Tenko-style women's prison (whose most bizarre inmate is a cockney-accented Amanda De Cadenet), the two young women pin their hopes on renegade lawyer Bill Pullman. The film, subsequently cold-shouldered by both stars, is entirely formulaic, predictable and dull. Given the all-too-evident abilities of Danes and Beckinsale, the true crime here is a flagrant waste of talent.

Good story - good acting - good movie

Two young American women make a life changing trip to Thailand - this is all I will say about a good story that you should discover yourself...

In many respects this looks like a rather small film but like any really good piece of film making it's the story telling that makes up for any big budget. This one will hold you right from the start whre the seemingly idyllic life always feels threatened and 'too good to be true'. Add to this excellent acting and a tight direction that keeps you guessing about where the story is going and you have a guaranteed good evening in.

One of the other reviewers appears to have watched this for the 'pretty girls' and I would just like to make it clear that this is not a sleazy film and that the two main actresses are playing excellent character roles.

This is a good choice allraound - enough 'action' for the boys, enough 'girl power' for the girls and a good and intelligent storyline for everyone. What are you waiting for?

    Great

I really enjoyed this film. I'd wanted to see it for a long time and I wasn't disappointed. It's a sad storyline but interesting and definitely worth a watch.
