Cruz as Diva in this stunning film
By a customer from Attleborough , 28 Aug 2009[Highly rated reviewer]
Once more Almoldovar uses his favourite actress Penelope Cruz in this stunning film about film making, acting, blindness love romance and secrets long hidden. As with all Almodovar films we move from tragedy to comedy within the same take and colour is so important to him red yellow bright blue and orange are his signatures for happiness dark colours for threat and misery! Some of the plot seems a little improbable but it doesnt matter in the overall scenario of the film! Almodovar is also exploring sexuality in all its various guises! Wonderful throughout, dont miss this film!!- Was this review helpful to you?

(91)I recommend perseverance
By Meerkat68 (13 reviews) , 24 Mar 2013As an Almovodar film, I put this on the subset of my watch list entitled 'films I feel I should watch but can't get too excited about'. When it arrived it stayed on the sideboard for a few days. Having watched it I'm now glad I did. If you see it as 'just' a film, and not part of an esteemed body of work, there is much to like in the story, characters, and the way they are played by the excellent cast. I recommend perseverance.- Was this review helpful to you?

Forgettable entry in the Almod filmography
By a customer , 14 Jan 2013Not a great film. Trots out a bunch of hackneyed themes - the trophy girlfriend, the jealous old rich dude, the horny director, doomed love, etc. The ending rewinds to the good old days of Almodovar's gynocentric comedies, so you're better off renting one of those.- Was this review helpful to you?

Another good one from Almodovar
By Nao74 (1 review) , 16 Nov 2012Big fan of Almodovar and really enjoyed this one. Melancholy, and stylish. Penelope Cruz is excellent as usual and the acting is very convincing.- Was this review helpful to you?

Embraces broken.
By gingerspike (410 reviews) from Grimsby , 06 Nov 2012A film-noir style offering from Pedro Almovodar, again starring the lovely Penelope Cruz. Perhaps not his best movie but certainly an accomplished one. It tells the story of a man with dual identities who loses his sight and the girl he loves.- Was this review helpful to you?

Don't read my lips
By BaldSeagull (5 reviews) , 23 Oct 2012[Highly rated reviewer]
I haven't seen a Pedro movie for about 5 years. I'd forgotten just how good this director is. With so much Hollywood nonsense that invariably substitutes a good story for CGI effects instead. Here he is great as ever with the usual quirkiness and storytelling and endings that although you think you know the final scene, there's always a twist you'd didn't entirely see coming. Cruz and all the other actors are superb, highly recommended!- Was this review helpful to you?
