It's been said that the point and click adventure game is dead. While I do disagree, games such as this and Dreamfall have convinced me that point and click adventure games are no longer my preference when it comes to this genre. 3D has stolen me away.
The Sleeping Dragon gets some things spot on. Great graphics, good dialogue and voice-acting, and some pretty good puzzles in some places. The transition from 2D to 3D has been Kind to George Stobart and his very sexy friend Nico Collard, but some things could have been done a lot better.
For starters, there is just too much sneaking around and pushing crates in this game. Call me old fashioned, but what's so wrong with the classic item and puzzle set-up for adventure games? A little sneaking is nice, and I can stomach pushing a few crates here and there, but this game just goes well over the top with it. Thankfully, the puzzle aspect is rescued by some interesting and ingenious puzzles that do actually get you to think from time to time.
Another thing I disliked was the storyline. It wasn't that interesting. Starts off good, with a murder investigation and stuff, but it doesn't really go anywhere. And the ending is just plain silly. An adventure game NEEDS a good storyline to keep one's interest, otherwise it's just a puzzle game.
Also, the quick-time action system was a welcome addition, but they could have done a lot more with it. And while we're going 3D, why not add a little combat into the game, like they did in the very masterful adventure game, Dreamfall? Cross-genres is the way to go.
As an adventure game, it was merely okay. It lacked the heart seen in the earlier 2D adventures, failed to deliver a very large cast, or a big enough area to explore and return to. But as a puzzle game with some pretty interesting and humourous characters, it's well worth a rent. Should only take you 12 hours to finish.- Was this review helpful to you?

Excellent
By Cath from Wigan , 12 Mar 2007I was amazed by this game - another classic in an already excellent series.
Broken Sword is so good - you just don't want to put the joypad down.
