Eddie (Gere) is a jaded cop with a week left to retirement. Sal (Hawke) is a dirty cop who steals confiscated drug money to help his sick wife. Tango (Cheadle) is an undercover cop who’s gotten in too deep. If you think you’ve seen it all before, it’s probably because you have; and if that puts you off then good luck trying to find a truly original story in a cinema crowded with superheroes, bromances and…Sex in the city 2.
The truth is, Brooklyn’s Finest, feels quite refreshing amongst the other summer releases – an authentic and gritty modern Film Noir that owes more to TV shows like The Wire than to the clichéd genre of police corruption dramas that it follows. Director Antoine Fuqua returns to the world of his Oscar winning Training Day, moving the action from LA to the mean streets of New York and following three separate but interlinking stories. Gere, whose bland and pleasant face doesn’t really fit the character of a burned-out drunk who pays for sex and never loads his gun, carries the weakest of the three stories - but it’s Hawke’s intense Pacino-esque portrait of desperate Sal and Cheadle’s exceptional performance as conflicted Tango that drive the film.
Like all the great crime classics of Hollywood’s past, everyone in the film is headed on a collision course with their inevitable fates; the slow unfolding of events rendered no less bleak by their predictability. Indeed, what really elevates the film from other ‘solid’ police dramas is Fuqua’s masterly control of this dark tone; the constant threat of violence, and the ominous and forbidding shades that colour the atmosphere of the seamy urban corners the characters are backed into. For what seems at first glance to be three unoriginal movies rolled, a little unevenly, into one – Brooklyns Finest reveals itself to be an intelligent, striking and serious-minded film that will stay with you long after the credits role.- Was this review helpful to you?

All the stories intertwine, and though it feels like you may have been down this road before, it makes it none the less watchable. Watchable movie

Absolutely superb!

The twist in this was superb. I loved the way the characters intertwined and how their paths criss-crossed.
This had me on the edge of my seat the entire movie, and i gladly watched it twice over. This one definitely goes into my must have guys movie list.
Don Cheadle's character in this was so so good, but Richard Gere was devastatingly emotive.
