C'est FantastiqueBy SeteezenX (119 reviews) , 07 Jan 2013
[Highly rated reviewer]If you're looking for a bunch of CGI werewolves running around chasing their tails, go watch American Werewolf in Paris, or some such. This is a more grown up movie, and not about werewolves at all. If you've outgrown your adolescence and enjoy a well made period drama/detective yarn with a Hound of the Baskervilles twist then give this a go. Plus Monica Bellucci's in it, what's not to like? Highly recommended.

A film with a split personalityBy ThatAlastair (2 reviews) , 08 Dec 2013What starts out seeming like an intriguing and grim period drama about superstitions and prejudice in tricorn hats and frock coats suddenly turns into a badly cut action movie, with sub-Matrix kung-fu fight scenes. It feels like the plot was suddenly high-jacked by an 8-year-old boy for the last half-hour of the film.
What is good about this movie....?By KittyWildmoor (27 reviews) , 03 Sep 2013There's some slick cinematography. If you're a 12 year old boy you might enjoy the heaving bossoms and CGI monsters.
Everybody was Kung Fu fighting!By NonHollywoodCritic (2 reviews) , 27 Aug 2013Absolutely ridiculous! This could have been a great film, were it not for the native american, doing Kung Fu in 17th century France, against, at one point, 2 french prostitutes, who where also Kung Fu experts and apparently, acrobatic gymnasts. In 17th century France, everybody WAS'NT Kung Fu fighting! Particularly Native Americans and prostitutes!
C'est Magnifique!By Makntak (7 reviews) , 23 Jul 2013I thoroughly enjoyed this. It's an old-fashioned romp with all sorts of everything thrown into the mix. Lots of twists and turns, with amazing sets and costumes that recreate late 18th Century France in a tale that has the hallmarks of Dumas along with a whole slew of Hound Of The Baskervilles and a bit of Van Helsing. There's romance and swashes being buckled and it's a fantastic Sunday afternoon/evening kind of a movie. It maybe a bit dark and a little gory and a little too much nudity for younger kids (10-12) but I think the 15 rating is a little strong. I'd have loved this at 13 or 14. Give it a try, they'll have to do some reading into the bargain.
Keep and open mind and just enjoy the storyBy Toronagga (2 reviews) , 22 May 2013
THIS REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS Show review anywayHideA really good film all in all. the story was definitely intriguing and part of the twist was unexpected. Even the BEAST wasn't totally disappointing from an effects point of view. The lead actor wasn't amazing as he seemed to lack the ability to portray facial emotions and the love interest was pretty forced, but the story and scope kept it going to conclusion. The combat choreography was good, but didn't always feel part of the same film. However... Well worth a watch if you are not a subtitles hater. Also, Monica Belluci..... ^-^
