This film has so much in it that is very good, it is a real shame that it just not quite work. As well as being a combination of different genres, this film tries to be both an intelligent art film and popular entertainment, and as a result seems to bore those who want entertainment judging by other reviewers, and irritate those who want something more demanding.

The plot and characters are original, clever and challenging, and the film keeps close enough to traditional horror stories not to become ridiculous. I found the set fight scenes incredibly irritating, and their complete removal would have earned the film an extra star. They are incongruous - not native American would be an expert in Asian martial arts, and ridiculous, being so obviously a result of photographic trickery. This film is definitely worth watching if you have a serious interest in the horror and Gothic genre, but you probably won't want to watch it again.
