Brotherly love and the smell of napalm.By adiw from Leicestershire , 19 Jun 2005
[Highly rated reviewer]Similar in tone to Saving Private Ryan, Brotherhood (known as Taegukgi in its homeleand of Korea) is a powerful box office hit which deserves to find an audience in this country.
The action is exilirating, not to mention exausting. The most expensive film in Korean history, fifteen million pounds to be precise and boy do they make it count. Amazing how cheap it is to make movies in the East, you couldn't even get Tom Cruise for that kind of money, though it would be quite nice to blow him up.
Brutal, realistic and emotionally charged, the movie tells the tale of the lenghs that two brothers will go to in order protect one another in the midst of war. Throw in a handful of alarming twists and Taegukgi is certainly up there with the best of modern war movies.
Perhaps the drama is a little over sentimental at times but for me that just added to the drama. That and the bottle of wine i was drinking at the time.
Brotherhood is a fantasic piece of movie making though and demands to be seen.

stunning epicBy LRP1 (2 reviews) , 22 Nov 2013Without doubt one of the finest, compelling and deeply thought-provoking films ever. Any guy that has a brother who he is close to, cannot possibly watch the ending of this film without a tear in his eye. Not one to get too emotional watching films, this one tears at your heart strings making it difficult to watch but nonetheless breathtaking on an epic scale. From the home/family scenes to the war torn battlefields, this film brings home with incredible reality, the futility of war that sets brother against brother and a country divided upon itself. Even people who are not normally a fan of war films cannot fail but to be moved by such incredible story telling.Truly an amazing feat of film making. Despite often being compared to Saving private Ryan this film was made some 3 years earlier and dare I say many of the scenes appear to have be 'borrowed' by the latter film!I I have recommended the film to several friends who have since subsequently bought it to add to their collections. Watch and be prepared to be stunned-enough said.
Totally Amazing Film.By a customer , 20 Nov 2013An incredible film personally the best war film I have ever seen, but more than just that, the acting and plot were stupendous and action scenes amazing, a remarkable piece of film making in every respect and certainly not to be missed under any circumstances.
It deserves 5 starsBy wma (5 reviews) , 21 Oct 2013This is a well thought through and I am sure based on experiences and documented facts. Its violent and sad with twists of fait as you would expect in a war zone.
Reality in a movie. Brilliant.By JenkoDog (25 reviews) , 17 Oct 2013This is among one of the best war movies I have ever seen. No glamour or bull, it tells the story as it is in reality. The senselessness of war, the loss and the sheer random violence is told well, without gratuity. If you liked Private Ryan, you'll appreciate this.
