Is this film dated? Of course it is; so why bother to watch it now?
Partially, in my case, nostalgia but mainly as a prime example of comic cinematography of its age. This film shows both the best, and the worst, of post war British comedy - and life in general.
On the positive side, the humour is kinder, more gentle and, of course, there is no foul language. The sexual innuendo is there, but in a manner designed to float over the head of younger viewers.
The negative aspects are the 'I know my place' class assumptions and women who are useful because they are prettier than a dishwasher but, that was how life was in those days.
Put aside PC attitudes and watch this film -purely as a social history, of course. I guarantee that you'll be laughing before long and feel happier when the film finishes: quite rare with modern films.
