A comedy and musical classic
By Theodore2 (12 reviews) from Bristol , 04 Aug 2008[Highly rated reviewer]
I was surprised to discover this film was distributed early in 1940 several months before Pearl Harbour as to a casual observer it appears to be in the context of a nation at war. Highly enjoyable particularly to those who enjoy traditional Hollywood fare. Abbott and Costello are at their clowning best as Army draftees and it was amusing to read that the Japanese showed the film to their soldiers to demonstrate the incompetence of the American military. For me the stars of the film are the Andrews sisters particularly their number ' Bounce me brother on the solid four'. Well worth watching this on You Tube. To those interested in the history of the period the film shows the mood of a nation as it moves from isolationism to full participation in World War Two.- Was this review helpful to you?
