  • Head and shoulders their best 'meet...' film

    [Highly rated reviewer]

The first and only really 'fresh' entry in their comedy-horror series. Some good routines, lovely sets and effects, and a good supporting cast including Chaney and Lugosi. This is clearly them at their best with attention to detail and plots that sadly wasn't evident in their rather repetitive and formularised follow-ups. Watch this one, give the others in the 'A&C Meet...' series a miss.

I haven't seen an Abbot and Costello movie for over thirty years . When I was a kid they were the staple diet for my TV viewing . I wondered if they were as good as I remembered and if my kids would like it in today's modern age.

Abbot and Costello meet Frankeinstien is regarded as one of their better movies and I vaguely remember it from my childhood.

Firstly let me say , Lou Costello still makes me laugh . He made my kids laugh too which is a good thing . Sadly the film does not stand the test of time too well.

The special affects , while good in the 1940's don't impress now and the storyline drifts all over the place.

It was a little too long to keep my kids totally engrossed but still , I'm sure they liked it .

If you have not seen an Abbot and Costello movie , you should. it's not a nice thought to think a man as funny as Lou Costello will eventually be forgotten.

Probably one of the best films i have ever seen.

My Grandad had this on Video and every weekend we would sit and watch it and howl with laughter, I thought when i got older i would be disappointed as with moset films I watched when I was Younger

I have to say this is fantastic family fun and who ever rates this as 1 star needs shooting

It is a long time since Abbott and Costella had them rolling in the aisles. In fact we no longer get comic double acts that did their time in music hall and gravitated to the big screen. I watched with my pre-teen boys and they were happily amused. The Frankenstein movie was better than the Mummy and I doubt that anyone would want to watch the whole series. If you want to see how these comics dealt with the coming of television by using all the assets that Universal could provide in the way of old sets, props and, yes, actors this is not a bad rental from a bygone era. A star rating is a bit meaningless for these old comic films.

I remember these guys from Saturday morning tele when I was growing up - I'm fairly sure these were 30 minutes programmes and they seemed funnier then! Not sure they make a succesful switch to movies.
