What A Fun Film
By a customer from Kent,England , 06 Jun 2005[Highly rated reviewer]
All the usual famous cowboys/cowgirls are in this.Great take on the women in the wild west.Follows one character as she lives her life in the west.Gabriel Byrne and Melanie Griffith just clicked on screen which was evident in each scene they did together.I liked this as it wasn't a soppy western with gunfights and brothels, told the story of the characters lives.i disliked Sam Elliots character seemed to be different from all the other westerns i had seen.Well worth watching but you'll need your hankies(if you have a heart).on the downside it is a long film.- Was this review helpful to you?

(6)Buffalo Girls
By a customer from Lytham St. Annes , 31 Mar 2010I thoroughly enjoyed this film but I feel it should be titled Buffalo Boys and Girls as there were mixed lead actors and actresses. It had everthing from 'Madams' etc gunfights, Gambling { with Annia Oakley } adoption, tears and death. This is a great film and a fair reflection of life then- Was this review helpful to you?

Westerns as they should be
By TopDollar (89 reviews) from North Wales , 25 Nov 2007I was pleaantly surprised by this western. The interaction between the characters was very good - lots of humour, a good storyline based on true life, and a strong cast. Angelica Houston is ideal as Calamity Jane, and Melanie Griffiths superb as her friend, the 'hooker with a heart'!
The scenery is beautiful and the sets are great, makes you feel you are back in the days of the Wild West. Floyd Red Crow Westernam gives a great performance in his role as Calamity's Indian friend. In fact I liked it so much, I bought the DVD the next day!- Was this review helpful to you?

Too shallow
By crispin40 (553 reviews) from Stirling, Scotland , 22 Feb 2006Only watched about 10 minutes of this as it was very artificial. It was obvious that the characters were acting. Anjelica Houston should stick to films like The Witches.
This was the second film we tried tonight and wondered if we weren't in the mood. However, our 3rd choice was excellent so it wasn't us but the films!- Was this review helpful to you?

Tedious in the extreme
By a customer from Somerset , 15 Jun 2005Deadwood never seemed so dreary !!Bring back Doris Day and Howard Keel in the Calamity Jane and Wild Bill Hickok roles !
We really rate the acting talents of Gabriel Byrne, Anjelica Huston , Melanie Griffith and wonderful Jack Palance but the tedium of this longwinded 'soap opera' made us switch off in the end. The dog was excellent even though he never seemed to 'age'.- Was this review helpful to you?
