Clueless meets Dracula in this engagingly silly, yet knowing, horror comedy that deserves cult status. Kristy Swanson is cheerfully dim-witted as LA teenager Buffy, who's surprised to discover that she is actually the only person who can save the city from suave Rutger Hauer and his fellow vampires. Director Fran Rubel Kuzui rightly plays it like a comic strip and draws perfectly judged performances from an eclectic cast that also includes teen heart-throb Luke Perry, Donald Sutherland, an unrecognisable Paul Reubens (Pee-wee Herman) and an uncredited appearance from Ben Affleck. Fun, but fans of the TV series starring Sarah Michelle Gellar will be disappointed.

    Buffy The Box Office Failure

If, like me, you're a pretty big fan of the television series of Buffy The Vampire Slayer then you're probably reading this review because you're thinking of checking out the film that started it all. My advice to you would be simply this: don't. It's so bad it made me want to paint a bullseye on my neck and run naked through Sunnydale singing 'come and have a go if you think you're hard enough'. The acting is terrible, the dialogue painful and the plot's obviously been put through a shredder and taped back together with no consideration for pacing or the build up of tension at all. How they ever managed to convince the powers that be to finance a series after this is beyond me.

I've started to rent all the films I saw when I was a sprog this was one of them! I loved it when it came out and I enjoyed seeing it again. Don't expect the SM Gellar stuff like major stunts and special effects but it's def a nice family, put your feet up movie. It's fullof stars which I think does make the movie more watchable and watch out for Paul Reubens (Peewee Herman) who plays one of the lead Vampires. Go on give it a try.

Fox not yet cast in Buffy movie

    • 15 Jun 2009

Buffy The Vampire Slayer producers have brushed off rumours Hollywood siren Megan Fox has signed up to star in the TV show's upcoming big screen revival - insisting casting has yet to begin. The title character in the blood sucking series, most famously played by Sarah Michelle Gellar, was originally brought to the cinemas in the 1992 movie of the same name, starring Kristy Swanson. Gellar's TV show ran for six years before coming to an end in 2003. And Fox has been a rumoured favourite to... Read more
