Bugsy Malone review

I loved this film as a child, and rewatching it for the first time in umpteen years it still stands up pretty well. Its not a completely flawless classic - the script is so-so, with such clumsy sections as the introduction of a character just to do a boxing song which has no bearing on the plot and is never followed up; also Bugsy himself is a curiously passive lead, and is overshadowed by just about everyone else in the movie (including a beguiling Jodie Foster). The films masterstroke is casting all the adult roles as child actors, and having an incredibly catchy set of songs. For an enjoyable runaround of custard pie machine guns and pedal cars, Bugsy Malone is good childish fun, but still enjoyable for adults.
