There's not a lot of artistry that goes into your average Bulldog Drummond feature, but they remain solid, amiable entertainments, a sort of civilised tonic when your palate is becoming jaded by contemporary action adventures. These two feature the usual excellent interplay between the five main characters (this was probably the only series to get the balance just right between humour and excitement), and offer John Barrymore plenty of chances to over-act mightily. The first, '...revenge', is the best, although you'll go a long way and watch a lot worse before coming across anything as groovy as the penguin in '...peril'.
Newcomers ought to start with one of the other collections, though, just to get all the characterisations clear - they don't exactly follow on like a serial, but it's as well to figure out who's who in Bulldog's universe.
The story contains some drama and suspense without the realistic brutality and violence of modern films. Innocent good versus evil tale. It is of it's time. Not edge of your seat stuff, but entertaining!
