This is NOT BurlesqueBy a customer from Norwich , 18 Dec 2010
[Highly rated reviewer]If you are a genuine Burlesque fan, and understand the culture and the history behind it, then this movie isn't for you. If you're a fan of Aguilera's, or if you want to just unhook your brain and stare at women in skimpy costumes, then this movie *IS* for you.
The dancing is NOT true Burlesque, it's modern-day hip thrusting aggressive sexual MTV jiggling. Aguilera indeed does have a stunning voice, but this just turned into one long music video to showcase it, puncutated with a paper-thin plot and 5 minutes of dialogue here and there in between songs. The plot line is ridiculously predictable, the beefcake love interest suitably beefy. Cher's uber-stiff botoxed stretched face is morbidly fascinating, and her top lip barely moves as she talks. Her one angst-ridden solo number was rather painful, but her chemistry with her gay business partner Stanley Tucci is very good. Tucci was a Godsend and the only remotely interesting character in the movie, however he seems to have carried right on from the character he played in The Devil Wears Prada - I was half expecting Miranda Priestly to waltz into the club and call for 'Ahndre-ah' to fetch her a drink. Someone please give Tucci the leading role he deserves, I'm sick of seeing him playing wing-men to domineering women or idiot men.
Save it for DVD ladies, and if you're a Burlesque purist then don't touch it, you'll be throwing things at the TV!

Entertaining, toe tapping, easy watching...By a customer , 22 Jul 2013Entertaining for the dance routines and singing, with a love triangle thrown in. Enjoyed watching it, can't comment if it's 'true' burlesque as never seen it! Easy viewing so a thumbs up from me.
Great Voices Good FilmBy a customer , 18 Jul 2013Watch this for the songs alone!! Not everybodys cup of tea but there are very few dull points in this film.
watch it for Tucci and the dancingBy friendlyfilmfan (43 reviews) , 13 Jul 2013This isn't for everyone. Its a combination of terrible romantic comedy with some fabulous dancing. Fairly certain it does no favours to the world of burlesque, but it is saved by some great performances and actors who can do no wrong (Stanley Tucci in this case). Christina Aguilera can't exactly act but she can belt out a tune, if you like her voice and style. Cher is fab, there is a reason that woman has an Oscar, and her partnership with Tucci feels like the most natural part of the entire film. The rest of the cast are mostly forgettable, a shame as Kristen Bell is otherwise a great watch and Alan Cumming is horrendously underused. You may still remember Cam Gigandet's abs for a few days after though....
AMAZING FILM!!!!!By a customer , 11 Jul 2013OK I really do not understand all of these bad reviews i have watched this film twice now and I find it absolutely fantastic!!! All of the singing and dancing is fab although it may be a little bit rude for the younger viewers because of the lack of clothes in some parts of the film.
Definetely a Reccomended WatchBy a customer , 04 Jul 2013Don't understand the negative reviews. I thought this film was fantastic. Easy to watch, great songs, great singers, great dancers & plenty of glitz & glam....what more can you want from showbiz?? It may not be proper burlesque dancing but who cares? It may be more modernised dancing but who cares? It's a brilliant film & I loved it. Will definitely be adding this to my DVD collection!
