This is NOT BurlesqueBy a customer from Norwich , 18 Dec 2010
[Highly rated reviewer]If you are a genuine Burlesque fan, and understand the culture and the history behind it, then this movie isn't for you. If you're a fan of Aguilera's, or if you want to just unhook your brain and stare at women in skimpy costumes, then this movie *IS* for you.
The dancing is NOT true Burlesque, it's modern-day hip thrusting aggressive sexual MTV jiggling. Aguilera indeed does have a stunning voice, but this just turned into one long music video to showcase it, puncutated with a paper-thin plot and 5 minutes of dialogue here and there in between songs. The plot line is ridiculously predictable, the beefcake love interest suitably beefy. Cher's uber-stiff botoxed stretched face is morbidly fascinating, and her top lip barely moves as she talks. Her one angst-ridden solo number was rather painful, but her chemistry with her gay business partner Stanley Tucci is very good. Tucci was a Godsend and the only remotely interesting character in the movie, however he seems to have carried right on from the character he played in The Devil Wears Prada - I was half expecting Miranda Priestly to waltz into the club and call for 'Ahndre-ah' to fetch her a drink. Someone please give Tucci the leading role he deserves, I'm sick of seeing him playing wing-men to domineering women or idiot men.
Save it for DVD ladies, and if you're a Burlesque purist then don't touch it, you'll be throwing things at the TV!

Boring !!By cushlec (6 reviews) , 12 Nov 2011When I heard Cher was going to be in this movie I wanted to see it , after a while I started to get bored she plays a bar owner who lookks after the burlesque girls who cannot sing and then comes along Christina Agulera and the hope that she will bring things around and the punters will spend more money on the shows but I got bored after a while
Great Burlesque start finishes badly as MTV videoBy Barbed (23 reviews) from STROUD , 11 Nov 2011This started off promisingly with a fantastic atmospheric solo performance from the amazing Cher. C.A.'s acting was passable and it kept a good pace until about half way through. Suddenly it turned in a CA music video and lost its way totally, including the brilliant atmospheric intimacy of the Burlesque Club. All of a sudden the stage, dancers and musical dance routines turned into standard modern MTV fare ending the film on a damp squib instead of the firework display it could have been. Shame. Worth sticking with just to scrutinise Cher's very strange mask like face during the disappointing last half though!
Surprisingly goodBy Chrissi86 (9 reviews) , 10 Nov 2011I was surprised by this film, I wasn't sure that I was going to like it... but I did. I thought Christina Aguilera did a great job. Good music and a good storyline. Well worth watching.
Girly filmBy Megsmom69 (4 reviews) , 09 Nov 2011A girly film definately. If you like musicals and happy endings its the ideal film.I enjoyed it and would recommend it for a cosy lonely night in with chocolates.
