Wat zien ik!

Hey, I enjoyed this! But then I am Dutch. Not much of a story, but does that matter?
This film has gone down into our family's history. My mother and some friends went to see it at a little cinema (The Astra, I believe) in Wassenaar, an ancient cinema which has now closed. It had a bar at the rear of the auditorium and my mum came out quite tipsy. On the way back they had to walk past the church yard (in the middle of the night). Some German woman was calling 'Ulli, es gibt Eule!', Ulli had probably gone to investigate the unearthly calls of the local owls. My mum got the giggles seriously and still does, when someone says 'Eule, Ulli es gibt Eule! Yes, this film is worth seeing.- Was this review helpful to you?

(7)Joyfully vulgar
By Savage (632 reviews) from London, England , 23 Aug 2008Verhoeven's debut is absolutely of a piece with his later career, a wilfully, celebratory, exuberant tale of a pair of prostitutes in Amsterdam's red light district going about their business and wondering, occasionally, if there might not be a better life somewhere. Although there are only a few moments of genuine directoral skill (the feathers flying out of the apartment window, for instance), it remains fun, in a base kind of way, rescued from 'Carry on'-style tedium by the fantastic performances. There's no real plot, but there's lots of joie de vivre.- Was this review helpful to you?
