Although he's best known as a musician, Phil Collins actually began his show-business career as a child actor. Here, he takes on his first lead movie role, playing Buster Edwards, one of the gang involved in the Great Train Robbery. Julie Walters plays his wife and they make the most of their roles as loveably cheeky cockney sparrers chirruping away in Acapulco after fleeing London. EastEnders-style clichés fall as thick and fast as the pair's aitches, and, while Collins does his best, it's Walters who steals the limelight as a woman missing the comforts of home. Too squeaky clean to be believable, this is an entertaining but fairy-tale view of law-breaking.

I am amazed that Phil Collins hasn't taken any more acting parts since making this film, as he is a natural. The film very cleverly takes you back to the 60's when the great train robbery took place.
Phil Collins plays the part of Buster who took part in the robbery... and Julie Walters plays Busters wife June... who in a way was his downfall.
The extra's on the DVD are well worth watching as it contains footage of the making of the film..as well as Phil Collins meeting the real Buster.
Because it is based on a real life story don't expect it to be action packed...but if you are interested in the Train Robbery and to see another side of Phil Collins.. then well worth watching.
Good film - great music!

I have seen it before and loved it then its a great film well acted Phil Collins play's Buster very well and Julie Waters is also a superb actress. Watch the add on bits I didn't realise Buster Edwards was in the film very briefly also.
Was interesting for me also having bought flowers of Buster Edwards a few months before he died.
I cannot fault this film EXCELLENT. Phil Collins fitted this role perfectly. Watch it!
brilliant film loved it 4 out of 5 for me
I remember really enjoying this at the cinema, so I was quite excited when the DVD plopped through my door (the floor was damp, having just suffered a radiator leak, you see.)
After sticking it on, however, I became gradually more disappointed as the film went on. There wasn't anything wrong with the film I could put my finger on, but it just seemed to be lacking in whatever it was that had kept me enthralled the first time.
For me, this is a "watch it once" movie - the second time around it seems that what you already know spoils the enjoyment of the film.
On the other hand - if you've not seen it, go and rent it immediately!
The story is based on Buster Edwards, one of The Great Train Robbers. I really enjoyed this film, great acting, singing and cathy songs from Phil Collins. Julie Walters was great. This film has it all, biography, fun, humour, music, romance and crime.
Phil Collins and Julie Walters excel in this romantic biopic of the Great Train robber, Buster Evans. The film provides a romantic account of the period after the robbery which saw Buster and another gang member, Bruce flea to Mexico with some of the stolen cash and largely focuses on the relationship between Buster and his wife June (Julie Walters) who is unsettled in their new lifestyle.
However, the film fails to stay within a concrete genre and at times tries to dress itself as a serious crime drama, which in my opinion, it is not. And even considering artistic licence, the film possibly paints an overly romantic view of Evans and avoids the seriousness of the crime he committed, which caused serious damage to the British economy and was indirectly responsible for the death of a train driver.
The movie also lacks decent narratives, and the scenes based in Acapulco are badly paced and non-eventful. That said, the film does offer excellent character acting perhaps surprisingly so by Phil Collins, who plays the role of Buster well.
The Phil Collins soundtrack also works well with the production, but perhaps deters slightly from the 1960s settings which the movie does so well to create.
Entertaining, but far fetched version of the Great Train Robbery, Collins played a great role, love him or hate him

Uneasy combination of romantic comedy and chase thriller.
