Stuntman-turned-director Hal Needham (CANNONBALL RUN), fashioned this intricately staged slapstick Western after Road Runner cartoons. Cowboy Handsome Stranger (Arnold Schwarzeneggar) is escorting Charming Jones (Ann-Margret) to obtain a large amount of money from her father. However, they don't know that bumbling villain Cactus Jack (Kirk Douglas) has been hired to try and get the money from them in transit. The action is enhanced by the presence of several veteran character actors and comedians, including Ruth Buzzi, Foster Brooks, Jack Elam, and Paul Lynde.

This attempt at spoofing old westerns stars Arnold Schwarzenegger and Kirk Douglas in what sounds like a comic meeting of the two chins. Made before anyone had the wit to relaunch Arnie as a pneumatic self-parody and before Kirk realised he was surrounded by dross, this is, sadly, an example of crass comic mistiming in the extreme. It was probably conceived by Hollywood executives over a week-long lunch, who thought it might be a topping idea to reinvent the Roadrunner cartoon as a live-action romp. The small trifles that are absent include any sign of imagination or comedy or, for that matter, a director with an attention-span. At least Ann-Margret looks as striking as ever.

This is film which as far as I can see is based on the road runner cartoons. Cactus Jack (Douglas)is the wylie coyote. And Arnold plays the defender of the road runner. good for a laugh and worth a watch.
The DVDs we normaly rent are good, super, charming but this one... we were in stiches nearly all along it! How daft can you be? one wonders!
A great film and well worth the time spend watching.
