CALIFORNIA MAN stars Brendan Fraser as a teenage Neanderthal discovered and thawed out by two high school misfits, Dave (Sean Astin) and Stoney (Pauly Shore). Once the caveman, who they call Link, is up and about, things get hilariously out of control. Dave and Stoney figure he's their ticket to being cool. However, that idea .. Read more

This was a belated attempt to cash in on Bill and Ted-style comic capers, although by now Californian teen speak was becoming more irritating than funny. Sean Astin and Pauly Shore play the nerdish teenagers who gain a ticket to “cooldom” when they dig up a deep-frozen caveman ( George of the Jungle's Brendan Fraser) and educate him in the ways of adolescent etiquette. There are some amusing moments, Fraser makes for a pleasingly gormless hunk and the reliable Richard Masur is among the supporting players. However, the comic posturing of Shore, who rose to fame on MTV, quickly grates and ultimately this lacks the winning stupidity of Bill and Ted's two adventures. It was released in the USA as Encino Man.

Hillariously Stone Age... or is that "Stoner" Age?

    I personally enjoyed this movie.

I am from the states and i saw it while stateside.

In america this film is called Encino Man.

I have no idea why they would bother changing the name.

They did the same thing for Harold and Kumar go to White Castle (Get the Munchies), which makes sense seeing as there is no such thing as White Castle over here.

Movie is hillariously stupid, if you enjoyed Half Baked and Road Trip, you'll love this.

    Atypical

Atypical for films of the mid 80s and 90s. Not really all that fascinating - an interesting watch if you like Brendon Fraser (but given his vocabulary is approximately four or five words throughout the entire film, you'd have to be a die-hard fan to get much out of this).

    OLD SCHOOL

I loved this film when it first came out, years ago, and watching it again after all these years I was not dissappointed. Its still funny and Brendan Frasier is sooo hot!

I found this film to be a terrible waste of acting talent. I did not enjoy it, the story line was weak and everything about it was pathetic! I also admit to switching it off after 65 minutes...
