An exercise in how to stage a musical with principals who can't sing, Richard Harris as King Arthur and Vanessa Redgrave as Guinevere try and Franco Nero as Lancelot is dubbed. The colour and the tunes of Lerner and Loewe linger long in the memory. Art Direction, costumes and musical direction all gained Oscars and cinematography was nominated. At just over three hours it is a little too long but having it on DVD allows for comfort breaks.Although the film has been able to add exterior action and a sweep which is unattainable in the theatre it never captures the magic of a live performance. Nevertheless I found it enjoyable.
