The first time I ...By John#281 from NOTTINGHAM , 27 May 2004
[Highly rated reviewer]The first time I watched this movie I was 11 years old at a friends sleepover party. We were so terrified we had to go to the toilet in pairs. I was curious to see if it would have the same effect.
And I'm pleased to say it has. Candyman has just the right blend of violence and suspense to spook the most mature of horror fans, managing to convincingly set it's nightmarish tale in a recognisable urban environment.
By the way, don't bother with the sequels, they are no good.

A must see!!!!!By harmonycross (6 reviews) , 04 Apr 2013A simple story of the past, which could be all too true. Handed down from generation to generation. A fireside tale to meant to scare. What more can you ask for in a thriller? I defy anyone to sit through this and not jump at least once by it. Tony Todd's voice alone is the perfect timbre for a chill down the spine and his acting is superb. Not overstated as some would have done in his place. He actually manages to convey a timelessness to his character, as all good urban legends should. The beautiful music throughout not only adds to the suspense but contrasts well with the bad neighbourhood and violence, making it all the more prominent. I hadn't seen this film for years and I'm glad to say that it still thrills as much as the first time around.
just say it 5 timesBy Billzhorrorkinguk (23 reviews) , 28 Feb 2013When we think of urban legend now for some reason I think about a mirror a hook and Tony Todd(Hatchet,Night of the living dead) I love this film because its not the normal horror film we are fed over and over by Platinum Dunes(PUKE). This is Clive Barkers(Hellraiser,Nightbreed) work becoming one of the best horror films ever made. The score is great the acting is great. And if you dont find Tony Todd's voice creeping up your spine then you must adjust the sound. Truly horrific.

One of classics a must see!By Adam_Lincolnshire (4 reviews) from Lincoln , 27 Nov 2012
THIS REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS Show review anywayHide(spoilers ahead)...One of the classics, horror movies all seem to be the same or copied of ideas and classic ideas such as vampires, werewolves etc.. Ok so it's an urban legend, and that's been done to death, and the whole calling him in the mirror is a bit lame, but I think this film has all the right things to make it scary, firstly the terrifying ordeal she goes through, then the overcoming and destroying the candy man, then revenge on those who pretended to care! All help an ending which is good, but in a sad way. I give it 5 stars because it's one of those movies that you can watch every ten years and it will still scare the crap out of you
