Bennett Miller's biopic of great American novelist Truman Capote. The film centres on a period when Capote is researching a mass murder for his novel In Cold Blood. The events shape his character and the novel shapes American literature irreversibly.

The WhisperingBy Vladimir Ripjakokof from London, UK , 30 Apr 2007
[Highly rated reviewer]Philip Seymour Hoffman must do an incredible job of impersonating Truman Capote in this movie (I don't know this for sure because I, unlike the self congratulatory critics it seems, never knew Mr Capote). I have no idea why else this film would have met with the critical acclaim it did. I refuse to believe that I just didnt get it or that it was too smart for me--this film was anything but.
Hoffman whispers his way through the movie making the dialogue very difficult to hear, let alone care about.
The film plods and this is compounded on by underdeveloped characters for whom the viewer can build no kind of empathy.

hhmmm...By Bojarkus (18 reviews) from London , 04 Mar 2010I can see why Hoffman won the Oscar, but I can't say that this is a particuarly 'must see' movie.
Think Green Mile, without the Hanks, or charm.
boring filmBy colleentheonly1 (19 reviews) from doncaster , 01 Mar 2010i turned it off after 10 minutes i found this dvd to be extremely boring and a waste of time and money
a good biographyBy ustwo (17 reviews) from ilkley , 28 Feb 2010if you're interested in Truman Capote or Harper Lee you will love this film.
It's clever and well performed.
If you're not interested in them, it's a bit boring to be honest! I personally found Capote's accent a little difficult to undertand at times.
Dire - I fell asleepBy a customer from UK , 14 Feb 2010I was n't even that tired! Extremely slow.
CapoteBy a customer from London , 18 Jan 2010I ordered this movie before Christmas and it has taken me this long to actually watch it, Having read the other reviews before ordering, I was really looking forward to it. How utterly disappointing. As stated in another review, we too fail to see why this film could have possibly met with such critical acclaim other than the writing/publishing of 'In cold blood' made Mr Capote the most famous author in American literacy history. I too 'didn't get it' neither did my husband or was it that the whispered dialogue meant we 'missed it'! Perhaps of course it was due to the incredibly labourious pace of the film and we nodded off so 'couldn't possibly get it'!
As far as we were concerned, there was no storyline. I actually stayed the course and watched the entire film in between yawns (my husband gave up about 45 mins from the end pleading that at this late stage in the proceedings, he doubted the content or the acting for that matter would improve!).
