I was impressed...
By a customer from Solihull, England , 09 Mar 2007[Highly rated reviewer]
I must admit to being an ever growing fan of opera, and that this was the first time I had seen Carmen. The quality is just about all you could want; it is like sitting close to the stage but being able to look slightly down. The sound is excellent, especially in surround sound. I had not expected the format of the opera, with periods of spoken word. But can only remember this for the early stages of the story. And so much smoking on stage (they worked in a cigarette factory in the first act after all!). But it was a fine story, well staged, pretty good acting overall - excellent performance from Carmen!! And the music should please everyone.- Was this review helpful to you?

(2)Average performance
By a customer from East midlands , 29 Sep 2010One of the world's leading singers take the title role, but she is not very convincing; and the other singers don't excede her standard either.
Much better recordings are available, especially ones where the tenor (for example Domingo or Vickers) incarnates the soldier infatuated with Carmen.- Was this review helpful to you?
