If you are studying 'Carries War' by Nina Bawden, at school or college the DVD sticks nicely to the story and the cast portray the characters well. To be honest I wouldn't have watched the film if I hadn't have read the book and probably wouldn't have enjoyed it half as much either.
However, for 8 - 13 year olds who may be interested in the 2nd world war - especially the children of London being sent to safety in the country this film is perfect. It will give them a good insight and they will surely be able to relate to either Carrie or her younger brother Nick. Pauline Quirke also gives a good performance.
Another tip - it's not something you would sit down on a Saturday night to watch, you may have to watch it in 2 or 3 parts, otherwise it tends to drag on.
I really enjoyed this film and it was a very beautiful tale and seemed soo realistist. I felt like i was there when carrie noticed the tragic accident at the end. Very good use of contrasting characters! I'd say anyone under 10 would not enjoy this movie!! I am 11 and LOVED it!!!
