Outcast at school, has her first period in the gym showers, gets ridiculed, girls get detention, one girl wants revenge, another girl feels bad and asks hunk boyfriend to take outcast to prom, outcast girls religious mother forbids her to go.
Brian De Palmas classic adaptation of the Stephen King novel which starts out like a soft porn film before moving into a teen prom flick with occasional oddness.
Its in the last half hour though that it really hits its stride with the infamous prom scene & the mayhem that ensues afterwards.
Sissy Spacek is outstanding playing the want-to-be-normal Carrie & takes her performance up another gear towards the end.
Go support also from Betty Buckley, Amy Irving, Piper Laurie & the very young & pretty pair of John Travolta & Nancy Allen.
The music is mostly pretty awful using Psychos violin bursts for the weirdness but is very good during Carries return home towards the end.
