Whimsical historical humour
By a customer from Ipswich, UK , 23 Jul 2004[Highly rated reviewer]
To be watched as much as a guide to social history as a comedy, this 'Carry On' film sees most of the gang doing what they did best. The story centres on the goings-on in a toilet factory, with all the innuendo that that trade would bring, but it's the political bias of the film that is more interesting. The depiction of the Union Steward as petty and ill-informed, the honest foreman (Sid James) as working for the company's interests (even lending them money !), and the owner (Kenneth Williams) as paternalistic and long-suffering makes it a fairly thinly-veiled political manifesto for the Tory party !
So, not side-splitting comedy but worth seeing as a souvenir of times gone by - a different world, if only 30 years or so ago.- Was this review helpful to you?

(12)brilliant and funny
By cheesekake (1283 reviews) from uk , 04 Oct 2012these carry on films are classic timeless comedy, in an age when they were created that others were being by the book, they broke the mould and created funny tongue in cheek humour.

Good old-fashioned comedy
By Miriam from Ealing, London , 31 Jan 2009A film that pokes fun at old-style trade unionism. The works day trip to Brighton; their antics on the pier, and Hattie's scenes with the budgie, were very funny.- Was this review helpful to you?
