Subtitled From Here to Maternity, the fourth Carry On to be set in a hospital is the last in the series that manages to surmount the shortcomings of its script and be consistently funny throughout. The regulars are present and correct, with Hattie Jacques in the title role as the object of consultant Kenneth Williams's confused affections, while Sid James plays a crook who leads a raid on the clinic where they work to steal contraceptive pills. Amid the innuendo, cross-dressing and crude slapstick, there are lovely cameos from Kenneth Connor as a nervous dad-to-be and Joan Sims as an overdue mum.
Intermittently amusing comedy.
this is one of the best of the carry on films.
Sid James plays a leader of a group of robbers who are determined to steal some pills from a hospital, and so they send in Cyril played by Kenneth Cope to dress up as a nurse and have a look around.
When Cyril enters the hospital as student nurse Cyrille he finds a sex mad doctor played by terry scott, a hypercondriac played by kenneth Williams, a beautiful young nurse that he can't take his eyes off played by Barbara Windsor, a psychologist who would rather talk about his crazy wife than treat his patients played by Charles Hawtrey and a Matron who tries her best to keep everything in the hospital under control, played by hattie jacques. But it's very hard with the collegues she's got! fabulous.
Carry on matron tries to be like the past carry on's, but just dont seem to have the style of other's like, Carry on constable or Again Doctor. The cast try hard, but I dont think Kenneth Cope is a very funny man. The rest of the cast were good as usual especialy Kenneth Williams and Hattie Jacques. It could also be the story line let's it down. Funny moment Charles Hawtry,Hattie Jacques and Kenneth Williams in the matrons bed room. Dull but watchable.
