    [Highly rated reviewer]

A film that is in equal parts tribute to, and send-up of, numerous directors including Alejandro Jodorowsky, Billy Wilder, John Ford, Robert Rodriguez, Aki Kaurismaki, Sergio Leone, Federico Fellini, Monte Hellman, Sam Peckinpah and at least several dozen others should be a mess and this one kind of is, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.

Most might see this as a cheesy telenovela, but I think its really a post modern masterpiece. From it's fake animals (all except the coyotes, which as the 2nd Unit Director takes great pains to point out, may have been a mistake) to its badly designed sets, built rather incongruously in some truly stunning and familiar Western locations to it's artfully cliched subtitles, to its deliberately bad editing, this is a film that is all about film... so if you're not fascinated by the whole 'film' thing this will just be a messy bore that may be best avoided.

If you do avoid it, you will unfortunately miss another pin sharp performance from the mighty Will Ferrell who may well turn out to be not just the funniest actor of his generation, but its best. No matter how ridiculous the situation, Ferrell's honesty, sincerity and sheer bloody chutzpah shines through and wins the day - and how many actors can you say that about?

If you do stick with it, make sure you get to the very end of the credits. There's a little easter egg there that may just give you an extra chuckle.

  • Not what you might be expecting from Will Ferrell

A bit hit and miss, but there were a couple of genuine laughs in there. More than anything though, I admired the fact that someone had the balls to make and release this, More so Will Ferrell for taking the part. Some will see it as awful, but as a B movie spoof, I enjoyed it.

People take this movie to seriously. Enjoy it for what it is. It is making a fool of B movie Mexican films in general. It has some funny bits in it and the effect are generally B movieish. This is done with a labour of love. Enjoy.

An okay film, was very funny in parts, but didn't contain enough humour to satisfy me really. The story was average, and the best thing about this movie was probably Will Ferrel's Spanish!!

Fantastic concept but let down by very mediocre execution. There were some genuinely witty moments not nearly enough. I kept watching thinking it would get better but then the end credits were rolling. Shame - this could have been a great movie.

awful, not funny at any part. couldn't watch it through to the end. I don't know what this film is trying to be, but it's not comedy.
