I've not read the book, but watching this has made me want to, not because I want to see if this adaption is historically correct, but because it just seem like a book that needs to be read.
Regarding the adaption. I personally loved it, this was the first time I'd ever seen David Tennant, and I'll be honest I was won over by his enthusiasm, but seeing him shag is way round not so pleasant some of the scenes are just cringe worthy.
